What Temperature Alarm Means
Built-In Refrigerator, French Door Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator and Side-by-Side Refrigerator: KitchenAid publishes this on all three families with the same substance. It describes an Over Temperature feature "designed to let you know when either the refrigerator temperature rises above 48 degrees F (9 degrees C) or the freezer temperature rises above 15 degrees F (-9 degrees C) for longer than 1 1/2 hours." The audio alarm shuts off automatically once temperatures return to normal, but the indicator light keeps flashing until Alarm is pressed, so the cabinet can tell you after the fact that it happened. All three pages close the same way: if the temperature does not return to normal, KitchenAid sends you to the Temperature Concerns section of its troubleshooting guide rather than naming a part.
Common Causes of Temperature Alarm
- A recently installed or freshly reset unit still working its way down to its target temperature
- Frequent or extended door openings preventing the cabinet from holding its set point
- An actual cooling-system malfunction if the alarm won't stop well past a normal pull-down period

Tap the Alarm indicator to silence and acknowledge it, and if the unit is brand new or was just reset, give it several hours to pull down to normal operating temperature before treating a continuing alarm as a real problem.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Once cooldown time has reasonably passed, tracking down what's actually wrong with the sealed cooling system means opening components that only a licensed technician is equipped and permitted to service.
- Repeatedly clearing the alert without ever addressing what's triggering it can let an entire refrigerator of groceries spoil before the failure shows up another way.
- The compressor and its wiring sit at the back of the cabinet close to line-voltage connections, so poking around there without proper precautions carries a real risk of shock.
