What E2 Means

Undercounter Beverage Center, Undercounter Refrigerator and Undercounter Wine Cellar: E2 has its own page on each of the three families, and each one consists of the heading "Error Code: E2" followed by a power-reset procedure. There is no fault sentence anywhere on them. KitchenAid does not say whether E2 is related to E1, whether it concerns temperature, the fan, the door or the control, or what the cabinet was measuring when it raised it. This page therefore carries the procedure KitchenAid publishes and stops where KitchenAid stops.

Common Causes of E2

  • Not published: KitchenAid documents E2 with a heading and a reset and describes no underlying condition
  • No component, sensor or threshold is named on any of the three family pages
  • Whether E2 shares anything with E1 on these cabinets is not something KitchenAid states either way

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

What is documented is a one-minute interruption to the supply. Use the breaker that feeds the cabinet rather than hauling a built-in unit out of its opening to find a plug. After a minute, restore power, give the display a minute, and confirm the cabinet is cooling before you walk away from it. If it is a wine cellar or a beverage center, check the contents by hand as well - glass and bottles hold their temperature long enough to hide a problem for a day.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • When a manufacturer publishes a code without a meaning, the honest position is that nobody outside the service network knows which part to look at, and parts fitted on that basis are money spent on a hunch.
  • Reaching the control or the cooling components means taking the cabinet out of a fitted opening past a water line and a finished floor - a two-person job with real damage potential and no diagnostic payoff.
  • Repeating the reset indefinitely on a cabinet full of food or wine, rather than having it read properly, is how a slow loss of temperature goes unnoticed until the contents are spoiled.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

E2 FAQ

There is no published basis for ranking them. KitchenAid gives both the same treatment - a code heading and a reset - and describes neither.

Yes. Service tools interrogate the control directly rather than relying on the display, which is why a code with no published meaning can still be diagnosed properly.
