Work out which tone you are hearing before assuming anything. A single tone at the start or end of a cycle, or at preheat, is documented normal behaviour. A tone repeating every five minutes is most likely an app timer that has ended and not been stopped. The one worth paying attention to is the error tone, and on this range that normally arrives alongside blinking lights - so if a tone comes with amber or white blinking, the next step is to read the code rather than to silence the noise.

- Most of the published tones are normal, so treating any beep as a fault means calling somebody out to explain a preheat chime.
- The one tone that does matter arrives with an error, and silencing it by cutting power throws away the code that was about to be readable.
- A commercial-style range is heavy, sits on its own feet and on most models is fed by a gas line behind it; moving one to reach a connection means the gas shut off first and the connection tested afterwards, which is not an owner step.
