What Over Temp Means

In its words the feature "helps prevent wine from spoiling by giving an audible and visual alert if the temperature in either zone rises above the preset range for 10 minutes." The audio alarm shuts off by itself when the temperature returns to normal, and the indicator light keeps flashing until the Reset Alarm touchpad is pressed. KitchenAid adds a detail that explains a lot of repeat calls: if the over-temperature condition is still present when a reset is performed, the indicator reactivates every 4 hours until the cellar is back below its preset range. It also notes that these controls do not appear at all unless the cabinet is above range and the alarm needs resetting.
Common Causes of Over Temp
- A zone that has sat above its preset range for more than the ten minutes KitchenAid allows
- A door left ajar long enough for one zone to drift out of range
- A power interruption, after which the cabinet has to pull back down before the alert will stay cleared

Press the Reset Alarm touchpad to acknowledge it, then watch what happens over the next several hours rather than the next several minutes. KitchenAid is specific that a reset performed while a zone is still too warm brings the light back every four hours, so a light that keeps returning is telling you the zone has not come down, not that the reset failed. Check the simple things first: a door not quite shut, a setpoint that was changed, a recent power interruption, or a cabinet that was loaded with room-temperature bottles.

- The alert exists because wine held above its range is damaged quietly and cannot be put back, so the thing not to do is clear the light repeatedly and leave the reason alone.
- If a zone will not come back into range, the answer is in the cooling circuit behind a cabinet fitted into a run of joinery, and neither the sealed system nor the extraction of the unit is owner work.
- The electronics and the compressor share the space behind the toe-kick grille at line voltage, so probing there with the cabinet powered is a shock risk on top of a diagnosis you would not be able to complete.
