🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close everything first and see whether it stops. If it does not, KitchenAid gives three checks in order. Look for a bin, shelf or food package holding a door off its switch. Then check that the cabinet is level front to back and side to side, and that the floor under it is level too, since a door that will not swing shut under its own weight never makes contact with its switch - KitchenAid notes shims may be needed. Levelling means putting weight on a shim under a loaded cabinet, so empty the doors or get a second pair of hands rather than tipping a full refrigerator on its feet. The last documented step is cycling power to the unit.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- This is a warning doing its job rather than a part failing, and disabling the switch to silence it removes the only thing that tells you a door is standing open.
- Levelling a loaded refrigerator by hand is where a crushed finger or a cabinet coming off its feet happens, which is why emptying the doors first is worth the ten minutes.
- If the tone sounds with the doors verifiably shut and the cabinet level, the door switch itself is the suspect, and it sits in the cabinet face wired into the control - not somewhere to prise at with the unit powered.
