Let the cavity cool with the door closed before you do anything. An oven that has just been cooking holds enough heat to burn through a cloth, and a self-clean cycle leaves it far hotter than that. With the appliance cold and off at the breaker, clean the touch panel with a barely damp cloth and dry it, since contamination on a membrane is the one cause of a keypad complaint an owner can reach. Then power the oven down by switching off its circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch it for one minute to be sure the code does not return, and verify the oven operates. Once it is back, press each key in turn and note which respond, because a partly responsive panel and a dead one send F2 E1 in different directions.

- A control that cannot read its panel reliably may miss a cancel press, and on an appliance that switches heating elements that is the press that matters most.
