What Locked, Lock or Loc Means
Wall Oven and Combination Wall Oven: KitchenAid publishes Locked, Lock and Loc together as three ways different displays print the same thing, and it describes the feature rather than a fault. The lock feature shuts down the control pads and locks the oven door to avoid unintended use of the oven. It is preset unlocked but can be locked. And there is a condition worth knowing: if the oven is currently in use, the controls and oven door cannot be locked. So a display showing Loc is the oven confirming a setting, not reporting a problem.
Common Causes of Locked, Lock or Loc
- The lock feature switched on deliberately or by an unnoticed long press
- An attempt to change the lock while the oven was in use, which the feature does not allow
- A control that is not registering the unlock press because of contamination on the panel
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unlock the control and the door the way your model's controls require - it is usually a press and hold on a key marked with the lock, and the owner's manual gives the exact key and duration for your model. If the oven has been in use, let it finish and cool first, since the feature cannot be changed while a cycle is running. If the lock will not release on a cold, idle oven with a clean panel, power the oven down by switching off its circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch it for one minute to be sure the code does not return, and verify the oven operates.

- Nothing is failing in the ordinary case, and a lock that works is doing exactly what it exists to do around children.
- If a correct unlock press on a clean, cold, idle oven will not release it, the control is not reading the panel properly, and that sits behind the front of a built-in appliance.
- Pressing harder and repeatedly on an unresponsive panel is how a touch surface gets cracked, which turns a setting into a real repair.
