When a tray of cookies browns fully on one side and stays pale on the other, or the same recipe seems to need longer in your KitchenAid wall oven than it used to, the cause is rarely something dramatic — it’s almost always heat distribution or a small calibration drift.
Start With Rack Position and Pan Size
A pan that’s too large for the rack, or that sits right against the back wall, can block the path air needs to circulate through a convection oven, creating a cooler pocket exactly where the airflow is interrupted. Before suspecting a mechanical fault, try centering smaller pans with an inch or two of clearance on every side.
The Convection Fan’s Blade Matters More Than the Motor
Most oven owners assume a weak convection fan means the motor is dying, but a bent or warped fan blade — often from a pan bumping it during loading — is a more common cause of uneven airflow than motor failure itself. A blade that’s even slightly out of true pushes air unevenly around the cavity instead of in a uniform pattern.
Built-In Calibration Can Fix Small Drift
Many KitchenAid wall ovens include a temperature offset setting in the control menu that lets you nudge the oven’s internal calibration up or down by a small number of degrees. If an oven thermometer shows a consistent gap between the set temperature and actual cavity temperature, this adjustment alone often resolves it without a parts replacement.
When the Gap Is Too Large to Calibrate Away
If the offset adjustment doesn’t fully close the gap, or the oven runs more than 25-30 degrees off even after calibrating, the temperature sensor itself has likely drifted beyond what a software fix can correct.
