Once the range is genuinely cold, power the range down by switching off its circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch it for one minute to be sure the code does not return, and verify the range operates. Note whether the door is locked, unlocked or stuck between the two, because with F5 E7 that is the detail that matters most.

- The latch is the interlock that keeps a self-cleaning oven shut at cleaning temperature, so it is never a mechanism to defeat, prop or lever.
- A range oven door is heavy and bottom-hinged, and one forced against a partly engaged latch bends the striker and leaves the door off its seal, after which every cycle runs long and hot.
- A freestanding range stands on its own feet and is held against tipping by a bracket at the floor, so pulling one out to reach behind it without releasing that bracket properly is how ranges come forward off their footing.
