What Flashing 0:00 Means
Countertop Microwave: KitchenAid states that "A flashing 0:00 means there has been a power failure. Reset the clock." It adds one condition - "To reset the clock, the microwave oven must be on standby" - and publishes the sequence: hold the Timer/Clock button for 3 seconds to enter the clock setting, use the plus and minus button to set the hour, press Start to confirm, set the minute the same way and press Start again. It also notes the clock setting appears every time the product is plugged in or power comes back after a failure.

- A power failure, which KitchenAid names directly
- The appliance freshly plugged in, when the clock setting appears by design
- A brief interruption at the socket that was still enough to clear the clock

Reset the clock. The appliance has to be on standby first, which is KitchenAid's own condition rather than a detail to skip: hold Timer/Clock for three seconds, set the hour with the plus and minus button, press Start, set the minutes, press Start again. Nothing needs to be opened and nothing needs to be switched off at the wall.
