What F7 E1 Means
Built-In Microwave, including the microwave-oven combination: KitchenAid publishes for F7 E1 "There may be a problem with the Water Boiler Temperature Sensor, or the associated wiring" and nothing further. Steam cooking means heating water to a controlled temperature, and this sensor is how the appliance knows where that water is. A fault against it means the control has lost the reading it uses to manage a boiler, which is why it stops rather than continue heating blind.
Common Causes of F7 E1
- A boiler temperature sensor failed or scaled up
- Sensor wiring damaged in a hot, damp part of the appliance
- A control channel no longer reading the sensor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the water supply to the appliance first and let the appliance cool, then cut power at the breaker: water and a mains connection in the same cabinet is the reason that order matters rather than a formality. With both done, power the unit down by switching off the circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch the oven for one minute to see whether the code returns, and verify the oven operates. If the unit has a fillable reservoir, check it is seated and filled to its mark before you look any further.

- Water fittings inside a built-in cabinet sit above and behind the electrical connection, so a fitting disturbed and not resealed properly drips onto the part of the appliance least able to tolerate it.
- A microwave stores energy in its high-voltage capacitor, and that charge does not drain when the power goes off; opening the outer case is therefore dangerous even on a unit that has been disconnected for hours.
- A built-in microwave is trimmed into a cabinet run and carries its weight on a frame, so it comes out of the wall before anything inside it can be reached - not a step to improvise alone.
