What F4 E7 Means
Built-In Microwave, including the microwave-oven combination: KitchenAid publishes two things for F4 E7. The first is a warning in its own right - "Do not use the Oven Meat Probe in the Microwave, they have different resistance values." - and the second is the fault sentence: "There may be a problem with the Microwave Meat Probe, the Meat Probe Receptacle, or the associated wiring." On a combination appliance there are two probes and two receptacles that look similar, and using the wrong one gives the control a reading it cannot interpret.
Common Causes of F4 E7
- The oven meat probe used in the microwave receptacle, which KitchenAid warns against directly
- A microwave meat probe failed or damaged along its lead
- A receptacle contact or the wiring behind it
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the probe and the cavity cool before handling either. Then check which probe you are holding: KitchenAid is explicit that the oven probe and the microwave probe are not interchangeable, and swapping them is the one cause of F4 E7 that costs nothing to rule out. Confirm the plug is fully home in the microwave probe receptacle, then power the unit down by switching off the circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch the oven for one minute to see whether the code returns, and verify the oven operates.

- A probe that reads wrongly rather than not at all will report meat as done before it is, and that is a food-safety failure rather than a cooking inconvenience.
- Everything in this appliance beyond the door and the control panel sits alongside a capacitor that stays charged after the plug is pulled, which is why the published owner procedure stops at the breaker.
- The receptacle wiring is inside the cabinet, and the capacitor in there holds a charge after the appliance is unplugged.
