What F01 Means
Built-In Microwave, including the microwave-oven combination: KitchenAid gives F01 the sentence "There may be a problem with the Oven Temperature Sensor, the Control, or the associated wiring." The temperature sensor is a resistance probe in the oven cavity, and the control reads it continuously to decide when to heat and when to stop. When the value coming back is impossible - too high, too low, or not changing when it should - the control stops the cycle rather than heat on a number it cannot trust.
Common Causes of F01
- A temperature probe that has drifted out of range or failed open
- Sensor wiring damaged, disconnected or reading through a corroded pin
- A control no longer interpreting the sensor signal correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the cavity cool completely first - a combination unit holds heat long after the display goes dark - then power the unit down by switching off the circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch the oven for one minute to see whether the code returns, and verify the oven operates. If you have an independent oven thermometer, put it in the cavity on the next conventional cycle; whether the real temperature matches the setting is the single most useful thing you can hand over when F01 is being diagnosed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Telling a failed probe from a failed control needs a resistance reading taken with the appliance dead, and the two faults look identical from the front of the cabinet.
- The magnetron circuit runs at thousands of volts and its capacitor holds that charge with the appliance dead and cold, so no part of this diagnosis is an owner task once the case is on the other side of it.
- Built-in installations put the electrical connection behind the appliance, so the breaker is the only practical way to de-energize one without moving it first.
