What Front Status Lights Not Illuminated Means
Dishwasher: this page covers the case where the status light that should be reporting cycle progress shows nothing at all. KitchenAid repeats the meaning of each colour - blue for washing in progress, red for drying, white for cycle completed, blinking for a paused cycle - and then moves straight to cycling power to the control, which is the only response it publishes. A status light that never comes on is either a light that has failed or a control that is not running the cycle it appears to be running, and KitchenAid does not distinguish between the two.
Common Causes of Front Status Lights Not Illuminated
- The status light or its driver having failed while the machine still runs normally
- The control not actually running the cycle the panel suggests it is
- A supply interruption that left the control in a state a reset clears
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Confirm first that the machine really is doing something - listen for water and for the pump - because a dark status light on a machine that is not running is a different problem from a dark light on a machine mid-wash. Then cycle the power the way KitchenAid describes: for a machine plugged into an outlet, unplug it for thirty seconds and plug it back in; for one hard-wired, turn the breaker off at the household panel for thirty seconds and turn it back on. Start a short cycle afterwards and watch for the blue stage.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Telling a failed indicator from a control that has stopped reporting takes a measurement, and both live in the door where the latch wiring runs.
- Running loads blind, with no indication of which stage the machine is in, means a paused cycle can sit unnoticed with water in the tub for a day or more.
- The light assembly is set into the door panel, and a door taken apart and put back out of alignment stops sealing against the tub gasket.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
