What F58 Means
Electric (radiant smoothtop) Cooktop, and on the page KitchenAid publishes jointly for Electric and Induction Cooktops: the sentence attached to F58 is that there may be a problem with the cooktop power control board, or the associated wiring. The power control board is the part that actually delivers power to the cooking areas once the panel has asked for it, and pairing it with its wiring in one sentence is KitchenAid declining to say whether the board failed or the connection to it did. F58 carries word-for-word the same sentence as F42 and F43, published separately, so the three are reported as distinct codes despite the identical description.
Common Causes of F58
- The cooktop power control board failing one of its own checks
- A connector or harness between the board and a cooking area loose or corroded
- Board electronics disturbed by a supply surge or an interruption

Let the glass cool first. A radiant or induction surface stays hot enough to burn well after the heat is off, which is why these cooktops carry a residual-heat indicator at all. Turn every cooking area off and power the cooktop down by switching off its circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, then watch the panel for one minute to be sure the code does not come back and verify the cooktop operates. Before you do, note which areas heat and which do not - the power control board handles the delivery of heat, so a cooktop that has lost some areas and kept others says something different from one that has lost the lot, and F58 on its own does not carry that detail.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- This board carries the current that heats the glass, so a connection remade badly can leave a cooking area live while the display shows nothing at all.
- The board and its wiring are named together with no test to separate them, so the decision is made with a meter and not from the code on the panel.
- Getting to either means lifting a sealed glass top out of the countertop, which takes the sealant bead with it and leaves spills a path into the cabinet below.
