What F03 Means
Electric (radiant smoothtop) Cooktop: KitchenAid publishes F03 with a single sentence - there is an internal communication error on the touch control module - and a breaker reset. The touch control module is the assembly that reads the glass you press and turns that into instructions. An internal communication error means the module could not complete an exchange inside itself, so it stopped rather than pass on an instruction it was not sure about. Several other cooktop codes carry this same sentence on their own pages, which means the number distinguishes the check that failed rather than the part that failed.

Let the glass cool first. A radiant or induction surface stays hot enough to burn well after the heat is off, which is why these cooktops carry a residual-heat indicator at all. Turn every control off and power the cooktop down by switching off its circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, then watch the panel for one minute to be sure the code does not come back and verify the cooktop operates. While you wait out the minute, write down what the cooktop was doing when F03 appeared - warming up, at a high setting, being wiped down, or simply sitting idle - because several codes on this family share one published sentence and context is what separates them for whoever attends.
