What F4E4 Means
Over-the-Range Microwave: KitchenAid publishes for F4E4 "There may be a problem with the Humidity Thermistor or the associated wiring." The humidity thermistor is what sensor cooking programs rely on to tell when food has started giving off steam. KitchenAid names the same component for its F3H code on this family and publishes the two separately, so both appear on this site rather than being merged.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch off the cooking surface underneath and let it cool before you stand at the appliance at all - an over-the-range unit puts your forearms directly above a range, and a burn from a hot hob is the injury that actually happens while people are troubleshooting a microwave. Then power the unit down by switching off the circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch the microwave for one minute to see whether the code returns, and verify the microwave operates.

- The thermistor sits in the vent path inside the cabinet of an appliance mounted above a range, which puts it well past anything an owner should be reaching into.
- The magnetron circuit runs at thousands of volts and its capacitor holds that charge with the appliance dead and cold, so no part of this diagnosis is an owner task once the case is on the other side of it.
- Getting inside an over-the-range microwave means unbolting it from the cabinet above and lifting it clear of the range below, which needs two people and a clear cooktop before anything else.
