What F3 E0 Means
Built-In Microwave, including the microwave-oven combination: KitchenAid is specific about which cavity here. Its text for F3 E0 reads "There may be a problem with the Upper Oven Temperature Sensor, the Control, or the associated wiring." On a stacked combination installation the upper cavity is often the microwave-oven half, and the control reads a separate probe for each cavity it manages. This code says the upper one stopped returning a value it could work with.
Common Causes of F3 E0
- The upper cavity temperature probe drifted or failed
- Wiring to the upper probe damaged or unseated at a connector
- A control no longer reading the upper sensor channel correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let both cavities cool fully - a combination unit can be cold at one door and hot at the other - then power the unit down by switching off the circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, watch the oven for one minute to see whether the code returns, and verify the oven operates. Note whether the lower cavity still behaves normally, because a fault in one probe and a fault in the control that reads both look quite different once you know that.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Whether the fault is the probe or the channel that reads it is a resistance measurement, not a judgement call, and the wrong answer means buying the wrong part.
- A microwave stores energy in its high-voltage capacitor, and that charge does not drain when the power goes off; opening the outer case is therefore dangerous even on a unit that has been disconnected for hours.
- Reaching anything inside a built-in unit means pulling it out of its cabinet opening, which on most installations means removing trim and taking the weight of the appliance while it slides.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
