What F47 Means

Electric (radiant smoothtop) Cooktop, and on the page KitchenAid publishes jointly for Electric and Induction Cooktops: the sentence names three items in a particular order - there may be a problem with the cooktop power control board, the user interface (touchpad), or the associated wiring. It is the same trio as F40 with the board named first rather than the panel, and KitchenAid publishes no test to separate them. What the code does establish is that the fault lies somewhere along the path between the glass you press and the board that delivers the heat, rather than in one of the cooking elements themselves.

Common Causes of F47

  • The cooktop power control board not responding as the panel expects
  • The touchpad assembly failing or reporting incorrectly
  • The wiring linking the two damaged, loose or corroded

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Let the glass cool first. A radiant or induction surface stays hot enough to burn well after the heat is off, which is why these cooktops carry a residual-heat indicator at all. With all controls off, clean and clear the glass over the touch area, then power the cooktop down by switching off its circuit breakers for one minute, power it back up, then watch the panel for one minute to be sure the code does not come back and verify the cooktop operates. If F47 comes back, note two specifics: whether the touch panel responds normally, and whether any cooking area heats at all. Those two answers between them place the fault at one end of the chain or the other far better than the code number can.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Naming three candidates in one line means measurement decides, and the cheapest of the three to replace is rarely the one at fault.
  • The board named here switches the supply to the elements, so mishandling it can leave heat available at a cooking area the panel believes is off.
  • Both named assemblies are beneath a glass top sealed into the counter, and lifting that top is a countertop job with real potential to crack the glass.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F47 FAQ

KitchenAid gives them the same three candidates in a different order and keeps them on separate pages, so they are separate reports of a fault in the same chain rather than one code with two numbers.

Whether the touch panel still responds and whether any cooking area still heats. Those two observations narrow a three-part sentence better than anything on the display.
