What Front Status Lights Means
Dishwasher: the status light projected or shown on the front of the machine is a progress indicator, not a fault indicator. KitchenAid publishes what each state means: blue for washing in progress, red for drying in progress, white for cycle completed, and blinking for a cycle that has paused. On a machine whose panel is hidden on the top edge of the door, this light is the only thing that tells you where the cycle is without opening anything, which is exactly why it exists and why the colours are worth knowing.
Common Causes of Front Status Lights
- A normal cycle in progress, which is what the colour is reporting
- A cycle paused because the door was opened, shown as a blinking light
- A finished cycle that has been sitting unopened, shown white
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Read the light against the published list rather than against what you assume. Blue means it is washing, red means it is drying, white means it is finished, and a blinking light means the cycle is paused rather than broken - usually because the door was opened. If the light is blinking, close the door firmly until it latches and give the machine a moment to pick the cycle back up. No reset is needed to interpret a status light.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Nothing here is a fault, so there is nothing to repair and no reason to open a machine that is working exactly as published.
- If a colour never appears at all - no red during what should be the drying stage, for instance - that is a heating question rather than a light question, and it wants measuring rather than staring at.
- The projector or light assembly is mounted in the door, so chasing it means dismantling a door that currently seals properly.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
